Looking for hub life and community outside of Schengen area?

Looking for a place where your neurodiverse family feels understood?

An LGBT+ inclusive community? We've got you!

Turning over a new leaf

This Collaborative Rebellion family has been traveling for 3 years now

After 4th grade we ditched the American public school system for the twins and started to focus on child led learning. So we packed our bags and started exploring the world slowly. First in England, happily avoiding a language barrier. Then we got more adventurous. We found out we love the jungle AND the mountains. The beach is beautiful and so is a field full of sheep. Monuments are cool to explore, but so is local community and daily life that's different from our own. We've realized how much we love to live outside of the box!

Traveling has brought our family closer together and expanded each of our comfort zones. We've faced challenges together and overcome some pretty hefty obstacles. It's amazing how much we've learned we are capable of.

But that doesn't mean we want to keep doing it all alone. All that freedom can sometimes bring on some loneliness.

Our worldschooling adventures have brought us face to face with the most amazing families choosing this unconventional path and honestly? Spending time with you all and sharing these experiences is one of our absolute favorite things.

Discovering Worldschooling hubs has been a game changer. That sense of community, the group that we don't have to explain ourselves to, those folks that have so much wisdom to share with us from their lived experiences... That's you!

When writing the story of your life, don't let anyone else hold the pen.

Ukelele? Check! Let's go. What do you want to sing together? Should we make a bonfire on the beach while we do it?

Having spent years teaching arts & crafts and music to folks of all ages, as well as being a preschool teacher, I am so excited to meet you and your family and tap into the endless talents we all share.

Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at thrivesubhub@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Ai tells us that a worldschooling hub is a temporary community. We want to challenge this. We do all the same things: we offer educational opportunities, organize activities, and create space for this community to develop. The difference is that we aim to facilitate the development of a community that will be fluid and evolve over time, regardless of where we all travel to after this. Keeping in touch with each other will be a breeze as we will not close chats or remove people when they physically leave. We are people who understand how much life changes as we travel the world collecting new experiences. We are the people who understand how to keep in touch, be emotionally available to the people that matter, and offer support regardless of the miles and oceans between us. Community is not a physical space.

We will be hosting hubs in several locations going forward. We aim to host some in Europe and some nearby but outside of the Schengen area to help facilitate those doing the "Schengen Shuffle" as well. Follow us on Facebook for updates.

Our hubs run from just 3 weeks to nearly 3 months. You are welcome to come for any amount of time during this period. Some families will come for just one week, while others will want to make the most of their time and really build strong connections that carry on long after this hub is over.

We aim to strike that perfect balance of small and intimate enough to really connect with each other and busy enough to never feel lonely in this adventure. Worldschoolers know that this nomadic lifestyle can feel lonely at times. Our goal is to help everyone feel that sense of belonging that helps us all thrive.

Families from all over the world are welcome and invited. The main language spoken (and written) within the hub will be English. We will do our best to ensure everyone has the same access to all communication and information we provide, regardless of your native language.

Just like Lego, we aim to involve and appeal to all ages. Families are encouraged to engage in activities together with their children, but there will also be activities provided for specific ages, abilities, and interests. We will modify activities as much as possible to help everyone feel truly included.

We have posted a PDF sample schedule on our website. There will be multiple activities offered throughout the day, as well as some built-in downtime. The schedule posted is called a sample schedule, as we are flexible and will make changes to best suit the needs of each group.

Ideally, since you will be participating in the activities with your children, you will be the one supervising them. There will be some activities offered that will specifically be supervised by any combination of the three of us running the hub and volunteer parents. Due to the communal nature of the hub, there will always be adults/parents present, and you are welcome to appoint anyone you deem fit to be responsible for looking after your children. We have worked as teachers, camp staff, nannies. We are background checked, trained in child care, and certified in first aid & cpr.

We do not follow a set curriculum as we are not a school. We are a community that provides educational opportunities and facilitates growth and development in natural ways. Nobody is forced to study anything they aren’t interested in. There are no tests or homework. There are just opportunities, with support and encouragement.

Many of us will be doing work while we’re at each hub, as this is part of the worldschooling lifestyle. Some of our locations offer a shared workspace, others do not. When we are set up, we will share any tips and arrangements we come up with to ensure it’s as easy for you as possible.

You are welcome to stay in your own tent, camper, caravan, or motorhome. All accommodations should be arranged directly through the campsite, as everyone will be able to pay for what specifically applies to them. This is not a one-size-fits-all situation; you get to make this as comfortable or as bare bones as you would like.

Meals are not provided by us as we can not accomodate dietary needs and preferences nearly as well as you do on your own. Each family is to arrange their own meals, though there will be ample opportunity for dining out together, pot luck style meals, and cooking activities that we provide. We will do research before each hub and acquaint ourselves with the local fare so that we will be able to work with you to ensure you get what you need.

Each hub will have a location and activity specific packing list posted on the individual website. We will make suggestions and recommendations based on our own experiences and knowledge of the area. Bring anything else you would want as well. Sensory needs, temperature preferences etc. mean everyone will have different things packed. We will always do our best to have extras and to know where to find things you may come to realize you need after your arrival.

Absolutely! This is a family affair. We aim to include and involve families as a whole. Nobody should feel excluded for any reason other than their own choices.

There is nothing preventing you from leaving. You can come and go as you please. This is part of the reason we do not charge a fee but rather ask for a contribution to the community. As for a refund for the fees to the accommodations you have chosen, please refer to their list of rules and regulations.

Nomadic families, sabbatical families, long-term travellers, and homeschooling summer vacationers may be at this hub. You will be surrounded by like minded families who understand where you’re coming from and are open-minded to the fact that we all raise our families in the ways that suit our needs.

We expect to run all activities, but you are welcome to offer up ideas, activities, or volunteer to help run any of them, as you wish. We are not hierarchical in this community, and everyone is welcome to involve themselves in whatever ways are most fulfilling.

Should you sign up to join us for 1 week and realize that you want to stay longer, we are happy to have you! Any arrangements with the accommodations of your choosing are subject to availability.

We will be updating everyone via WhatsApp and/or Telegram. If you choose not to use WiFi, we will ensure that word of mouth travels as well as possible once everyone meets and gets to know each other. We will make it abundantly clear where we are located so that you can find us at any time. If you use something other than WhatsApp or Telegram, just let us know and we will sort it out.
